Errigal Report 15th – 16th June

Conor McIlwainne picked for Ireland!

CONOR MCILWAINNE02Conor McIlwainne has been named as part of a panel of ten riders chosen by Cycling Ireland who will travel to the Continent as part of the national set-up for four weeks in July-August. The riders will take in both track and road racing and training in Belgium.

Cycling Ireland CEO Geoff Liffey said: “I am pleased to see the progression of the junior riders to the next level and the continued progression of the European based riders. There will be strong competition within this U23 group over the coming years as they move into a key developmental phase which will play a large part in determining their future in the sport.”

Conor says; I am anxious but very excited to be travelling abroad with the Irish team as I feel it will bring me on immensely because of the massive step up in level abroad. The panel selected are all of similar age to me and of the same standard, so it will be very competitive between us all. Right now though all I am thinking about is the National Championships on this week in Carlingford. Both races will be very competitive, as all riders will be looking for their best performances, as will I myself!

As he said, Conor will be taking part in this weekends National Championships with the Time Trial on Thursday and the National Road Race Championship on Sunday and the club wishes him well in both events.

Fun Family Relay

The Family Relay Cycling event took place on Sunday and proved very popular with a large number of teams again taking part. Each team had a youth under 10, a youth under 14, an under 40, an over forty and a lady with all (except the Under 10) doing one lap of 7 miles of the Dore Circuit. This was a fun event with refreshments and a barbeque after kindly provided by the staff of the community centre and bouncy castles in place for the children. First team home on the day was made up of Danny Hunter, Charlie Gallagher with Ciara, PJ and Odhran Doogan. It is hoped to run more of these events in the coming months and the Club would like to invite anyone who is interested in a real fun family day out to take part in the next one which will be advertised soon.
