Donegal Ras Report” Errigal Cycling Club” 2012
Errigal cycling club was very keen to get a team in the Ras Dhun na nGall this year as it would be the first time having entered this event. The event consists of 3 very tough days of racing with 4 stages over the most challenging terrain Donegal has to offer. The event promised to have a high class field with riders such as young new Zealand man Sean Hambrook who is a French based cyclist representing New Zealand in the World Championships this year.
A 5 man team was entered to represent Errigal cc which consisted of Peter mc Bride, Danny Hunter, Kevin Holian, Sean McFadden and Cormak Keeney. From the off it was clear that we had one of the best set ups of the weekend. The support from the club was phenomenal and the team managers Con mc Geever and Sean Sweeney were top class. Throughout the weekend Errigal cc riders excelled and proved they could compete well against the finest talent the country has to offer. In every stage the team was going for the sprint finishes which got us some top 10 finishes in individual stages. Overall the weekend was a huge success and we have really got the club name out there showing that our club is now in a position to compete well against any club in Ireland. All the team finished fantastically especially Sean mc Fadden and Cormak Keeney who finished in the top 20 overall in GC which is a huge achievement, Errigall cc placed 5th team out of a strong field of 21 teams and Danny Hunter finished 4th overall in the u23 General Classification. The team would like to thank everyone from the club that came out and showed your support, the sports therapist Nicole, Con mc Geever, Sean Sweeney, Michael mc Bride for their faultless work throughout the weekend and anybody else who helped out in anyway.
